A playfully ornate bathroom takes its black and white seriously. Crisp stripes mix with glossy black paint elegant marble tiles and over-the-top gilded accessories. It’s kind of like the commode is wearing a tux to a party at the Great Gatsby’s house. This luxe bathroom combines silver crocodile wallpaper with a black marble wall; an all-white toilet would be a snore in such a dynamic bathroom. The black and white commode complements the bold eclectic paisley wallpaper in here.
When smart toilets with these features originally came out plumber Dave Guy and his co-workers thought they were the “silliest things in the world” he says. Then a toilet company gave him one for free and encouraged him to try it out in his own home which he did. Now he has three. “They’re definitely a benefit in more ways than one” he says. “Music and heat they’re a little overkill though”.
The other roadblock is outlets. Smart toilets need electricity and most bathrooms don’t come with an outlet near the toilet. “The single biggest angst that consumers have about smart toilets is ‘How am I going to plug this in?’” Strang says. Toto encourages builders and homeowners to put outlets near toilets when building a home or remodeling a home even if you’re not installing a smart toilet now. You or a future homebuyer might want to have a smart toilet someday. And the cost is relatively inexpensive if you’re already renovating.
Choosing a color toilet can create beautiful statement effects especially in a simple neutral-on-neutral palette. Consider going with a black lid on a white toilet or go bold with an entirely black toilet. Just make sure to pick up the black accent with other objects so the toilet doesn’t aggressively stand out. On the other hand color can sometimes be the right choice so the toilet doesn’t stand out. When using a dark wall material such as earthy stone tiles a gray or beige toilet will be somewhat camouflaged.
One-piece toilets tend to be a little more high-end and expensive although prices and quality vary widely as with two-piece toilets. This style is seamless providing a modern look and one less place for soil and germs to hide. It’s worth noting that one-piece toilets can come in relatively traditional-looking styles as well so if installation isn’t an issue and it fits your budget a one-piece is generally the more recommended choice regardless of your decor type. However for some people the classic charm of the two-piece style is worth the extra cleaning effort.
